Texas Red

Texas Red doesn’t have any funny anecdotes about how it got its name and it wasn’t the first beer we ever brewed, but this amber lager doesn’t need any of that because the real story is its balanced flavor. The notes of caramel and its sound malt character are perfectly balanced with just a bit of hops. This is a super-smooth, very drinkable beer and at the end of the day, that’s what is most important.

Recipe Information:

Style: Amber Lager
Alcohol By Volume: 4.5%
International Bitterness Units: 25
Color: Amber
Hops: Magnum, Strisselspalt
Malts: 2 Row, Melanoidin, Cara Munich, Carafa Special II
Tasting Notes: Caramel, Light Malt Sweetness, Spicy Hops

Serving Suggestions:

Preferred Glass: Flaired Pilsner
Preferred Serving Temperature: 45º
Food Pairings: Rahr's Red pairs well with Cajun, Caribbean, Thai and Indian foods. But if you only do one thing in your life, pair this beer with your favorite Pizza.
Cheese Pairings: Monterey Jack, Gruyere

This was one of the first Rahr beers I have ever tried. Rahr's Red is one of the better beers I have had. The sweet flavor at the start with a good bitter bite towards the finish. Hats off to you Rahr
You've made a new customer

How does this beer differ from Buffalo Butt? It appears to have the same basic ingredients. Is there a difference of technique?

These boys from Rahr & Sons surely don’t disappoint! This brew poured up a dark walnut-amber colored body sporting a two-finger bubbly head with great retention and lacing. Warm aromas of malt and hops so richly balanced that it entices one to stop and savor the brew with the nose before taking in that first tantalizing sip! A very malty tasting beer (which I really like cause I’m a malt-head!) with hints of the hops hidden here and there. This brew is slightly heavier than a light brew but slightly lighter than a medium-bodied brew. This brew is very, very, very easy to drink; so for a session brew it ranks up there of my highest picks! An excellent pairing with some beef/chicken fajitas or some slow-smoked wild game!

Good Stuff. Your India IPA is better but can't see where to comment on that.

If I could buy this in the U.K I would do so. As good as many of ours!

Any plans to export..

This was one of the first beers I have ever tried. I was at my first Rangers game (Go Rangers!) and I saw a stand selling this beer. I thought what the heck and I tried it. Thousands of beers later I still think about this beer and Rahr and Sons brewery. Best beer ever!

I picked up a six-pack of Texas Red at a World Market in Bee Cave last week -- a very quaffable beer to be sure!

Are your beers available in Missouri? If not, to whom do I send a letter?
