Winter Warmer Review
By Barry Shlachter, Star-Telegram Staff Writer
Beer of the Week - Winter Warmer
The beer: Rahr & Sons Winter Warmer
The cost: $7.99 to $8.99 for a six-pack of 12-ounce longnecks

Where to buy it: Hall's, Majestic, Kings, Central Market and Cost Plus World Market
Why you should check it out: If you're already a fan of the Fort Worth microbrewery, you might be in for a surprise. This is Fritz Rahr's first non-German style brew, and if you like old English ales, here's a new one to try. Although Rahr is partial to malty lagers, he has produced a delicious, nicely balanced ale. It pours a clear, dark reddish-brown with a creamy, tawny head and just enough carbonation. There are notes of toasted malt, hazelnut and chocolate, but all subtle, and a pleasant aftertaste that gives a hint of complexity. Light enough to accompany a holiday feast; flavorful enough to enjoy on its own, before or after. A real winner. It's 8 percent alcohol.
